Reading Thought #12

It's your turn to review the book. What did you think of the book? Did your thoughts change from the beginning of the story to the end or did you have any new ideas?

Reading Thought #11

What have you learned about autism or students with disabilities in your school? How do you think that you can apply Jason's story to your life and school? Give an example.

Reading Thought #10

Jason decides to change the ending of his story about Bennu. What personal connections do you think Jason made to the characters in his story? What do you think is the message of the story?

Reading Thought #9

At the Storyboard Convention, Jason meets Rebecca. When she sees him at breakfast, she pretends to tie her shoe and then turn around. Why dud Rebecca do this? Have you ever felt uncomfortable or tried to avoid a situation like Rebecca did? DO you agree or disagree with her actions?

Reading Thought #8

When Jason finds out that Rebecca will be attending the Storyboard Convention, he decides that he no longer wants to go because of his fear or what she'll think of him. What does this tell you about Jason?

Reading Thought #7

Names can hurt. In chapter 12, Jason talks about how names are just a combination or letters, but sometimes they can hurt and other times they don't mean anything. Do you agree with Jason? Why or why not? Have you every been hurt by a name or label?

Reading Thought #6

Describe Jason's relationship with his family. How do they communicate like you and your family? How are they different?

Reading Thought #5

Why do you think that Jason writes anonymously on his writing website? How does this help or hurt him as a writer?

Reading Thought #4

Jason has a nonverbal learning disorder and ASD, or autism spectrum disorder. Do you think this changes what Jason likes/dislikes or what he is good at? Why or why not?

Reading Thought #3

What does Jason do really well? What is he very knowledgeable about? Do you have this in common with Jason, or are you very good at something else? Write about it.

Reading Thought #2

Does it seem that Jason has a hard time understanding what other people are doing or asking of him? Give an example.

Reading Thought #1

How do you know right from the beginning of the book, that Jason is not a typical twelve-year-old? Give an example from the text.

Autism Awareness Presentation (4/1/2015)

Post one thing you learned from Mrs. Kowalski, Aaron, and PJ's presentation from today.  Some ideas may include, "What is one thing new you learned about Autism?" or " How can you be a good friend to someone with Autism?"
